Report: Increase in Medical Cases Amid Assaults and Lack of Treatment in "Ofer" Prison
SadaNews - The Palestinian Prisoners Club reported in a special briefing regarding visits to prisoners in "Ofer" prison during January and February 2026, that the number of sick prisoners has significantly increased due to harsh detention conditions and the lack of healthcare provisions inside the cells, in addition to hunger which has weakened their immunity and raised the incidence of various diseases.
The club clarified in a statement issued today, Wednesday, that detainees continue to suffer from physical assaults, in addition to the deprivation of necessary treatment, which has exacerbated their health conditions.
It was noted that prisoner (M. Y) reported that he suffered a back fracture prior to his arrest and was subjected to severe beatings during his detention, which resulted in a broken nose, and he has not received any treatment. He also suffers a loss of about 26 kg of weight due to continuous hunger and difficulty sleeping due to the pain.
Additionally, prisoner (B. J) is suffering from blood clots in the liver, small intestine, and stomach, along with diabetes and problems with his blood platelets. He requires urgent medical follow-up and was beaten during his entry to the prison, losing his dentures without receiving treatment.
As for prisoner (D. N), one of the injured from his arrest in 2024, he was shot in his right hand, abdomen, and pelvis, and today he suffers from difficulties in walking, severe pain, and issues with bowel movements after losing his bladder functions. Doctors have reported that there is currently no treatment available for him, while prisoner (A. A) has lost hearing in his left ear due to a collective severe beating inside the prison.
The Prisoners Club confirmed that these cases are not isolated and that the prisoners are facing a dangerous health situation due to the ongoing policy of medical neglect inside "Ofer" prison and other Israeli prisons.
