Journalists' Syndicate Condemns Israeli Occupation Measures Against Jerusalem Journalism

SadaNews - The Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate condemned the escalatory measures taken by the Israeli occupation authorities against journalists and media institutions in occupied Jerusalem, considering them part of a systematic policy aimed at restricting journalistic freedom and erasing the Palestinian narrative, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan.

The syndicate confirmed in a statement issued today, Tuesday, that it has monitored the issuance of expulsion orders from the Al-Aqsa Mosque for ten journalists and photographers, in an attempt to prevent them from fulfilling their professional duty in covering events inside and around the mosque.

It pointed out the decision issued by the Israeli Minister of Defense to ban four Palestinian media outlets and classify them as "terrorist entities," followed by persecution, summoning, and threats against their staff, clarifying that the targeted institutions are: the Capital Media Network, Al-Bawaba, Ma'arij, and Quds Plus.

In this context, the syndicate condemned the arrest of journalist Nasreen Salem and her interrogation for several days, before being released under conditions that included house arrest and a ban on using the phone and social media, considering that these restrictions represent a blatant violation of freedom of opinion and expression and a direct assault on her right to practice her journalistic work.

The syndicate stressed that these measures constitute a violation of international law and of relevant international resolutions regarding the protection of journalists, calling on the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists' Union, and all international organizations concerned with media freedom to intervene urgently to stop these violations and ensure the freedom of journalistic work in Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.
