Despite Tensions with America.. Iran Approaches Deal for Chinese Anti-Ship Missiles
SadaNews - Iran is nearing a deal with China to purchase anti-ship "cruise" missiles, at a time when the United States is deploying a massive naval force near its shores amid increased possibilities of potential strikes against Tehran.
Six sources familiar with the negotiations told Reuters that the deal involves Chinese-made "CM-302" missiles and that it is close to completion.
However, the sources revealed that no agreement has yet been reached on a delivery date.
The supersonic missiles have a range of about 290 kilometers and are designed to evade sea-based defenses by flying at high speeds and low altitudes.
Two weapons experts stated that deploying such missiles would significantly enhance Iran’s offensive capabilities and pose a threat to U.S. naval forces in the region.
The six sources disclosed that negotiations with China for the purchase of missile weapon systems began at least two years ago, but accelerated sharply following the 12-day war between Israel and Iran last June.
