Sa'ar to Participate in "Peace Council" Meeting in Washington Instead of Netanyahu
SadaNews - Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has decided to send his Foreign Minister Gidon Sa'ar to participate in the upcoming "Peace Council" meeting regarding Gaza, scheduled to take place in Washington next week.
This decision comes a day after Netanyahu's office announced, shortly after the conclusion of his visit to Washington, that he would not attend the "Peace Council" meeting while planning to participate in the pro-Israel lobby (AIPAC) conference remotely.
American officials stated this week that Trump is expected to announce during the "Peace Council" meeting a multi-billion dollar plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with details on plans to establish a UN-sanctioned stabilization force in the region.
Delegations from at least 20 countries, including heads of state, are expected to attend the "Peace Council" meeting, which was established by the United Nations Security Council as part of Trump's plan to end the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Forces from the Middle East, including Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, have joined the council, along with major emerging countries like Indonesia, though global powers and Washington's Western allies have shown caution.
American officials indicated that the meeting will focus on Gaza at a time when the Trump administration is pushing for progress toward the next steps outlined in the plan, including the deployment of the international stabilization force concurrently with the ongoing withdrawal of Israeli troops and the disarmament of Hamas.
They noted that Trump will announce that several countries intend to provide thousands of soldiers for the stabilization force expected to be deployed in Gaza in the coming months.
