President Abbas Issues Decision to Publish the First Draft of the Interim Constitution and Open the Floor for Comments

SadaNews - The Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, who is also the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, has issued a presidential decision to publish the first draft of the interim constitution of the State of Palestine, making it available for public review through the electronic platform designated for the National Committee for Drafting the Constitution and through the media outlets determined by the committee.

The decision aims to broaden community participation in the drafting of the constitutional document by inviting citizens, civil society organizations, political forces, experts, and academics to submit their comments and proposals on the draft during a period extending up to sixty days from the date of the decision's publication.

According to the decision, the Coordination and Drafting Committee, stemming from the Interim Constitution Preparation Committee, will be responsible for receiving, organizing, and studying the comments, categorizing them into substantial remarks related to constitutional principles and technical remarks concerning drafting and organization, in preparation for introducing the necessary amendments to serve the public interest and achieve national consensus.

The committee will also prepare a detailed report on the results of studying the comments and recommendations to be submitted to the President of the State for discussion and approval before the final version of the constitution draft is prepared.

The decision emphasized that the relevant authorities would be responsible for implementing its provisions, effective from the date of its issuance and published in the official gazette.
