Iranian Foreign Minister: Confident of Reaching an Agreement with Washington and Ready for War if It Fails
SadaNews - Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said on Sunday that he is confident in the possibility of reaching an agreement with the United States regarding the nuclear program, noting that Tehran is ready for war if negotiations fail.
Araghchi stated in remarks to "CNN": "I am confident in the possibility of reaching an agreement with the United States regarding the nuclear program."
He added: "We have lost trust in Washington as a negotiating partner, but exchanging messages through friendly countries facilitates fruitful discussions."
He pointed out that "the focus should be on Iran's nuclear capabilities, and let us not talk about impossible issues and waste the opportunity."
He mentioned that "reaching a fair and just agreement that ensures we do not possess nuclear weapons is achievable, even in a short period of time."
Araghchi continued: "Tehran expects the lifting of U.S. sanctions and respect for its right to continue uranium enrichment for peaceful purposes."
While he expressed confidence in the possibility of reaching an agreement, he also said: "We are ready for war if negotiations fail, and the conflict will likely extend beyond Iran's borders."
He stated, "War would be a disaster for everyone, and U.S. bases in the region would become targets."
