CENTCOM: An American Fighter Jet Departed the Lincoln Carrier for Routine Flights in the Arabian Sea
SadaNews - On Friday, the U.S. Central Command "CENTCOM" stated that one of its fighter jets had launched from the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln "in routine flight operations in the Arabian Sea."
The command added in a statement: "A F/A-18E Super Hornet fighter jet, belonging to Strike Fighter Squadron 151, took off from the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) while conducting routine flight operations in the Arabian Sea."
When the United States deploys an aircraft carrier such as the "USS Abraham Lincoln", it does not "send a ship", but rather a carrier strike group - a mobile, self-sufficient joint combat force.
The carrier "Abraham Lincoln" leads a strike group specifically designed to execute complex offensive and defensive missions, and this group is considered an independent force that provides air supremacy and long-range strike capabilities (Tomahawk missiles).
The "Wall Street Journal" reported on Thursday that several countries in the region are trying to push the United States and Iran towards talks to avoid the possibility of a military conflict, but these efforts have not yet made tangible progress.
The newspaper mentioned that American officials said President Donald Trump had received briefings about potential attack options against Iran prepared in coordination between the White House and the Pentagon.
According to the newspaper, one of these options, known as "the big plan", could involve striking Iranian regime and Iranian Revolutionary Guard facilities.
The newspaper added that "there are less engaging options that involve striking symbolic targets of the Iranian regime while leaving a margin for escalating strikes if Tehran does not agree to end its nuclear activities."
Also according to the "Wall Street Journal", options include launching cyber attacks on Iranian banks or tightening sanctions.
