Israeli Supreme Court Postpones Again Review of the Appeal Against Anti-UNRWA Laws
SadaNews - The Israeli Supreme Court rejected yesterday, Thursday, the urgent request submitted by the "Adalah" rights center for the issuance of a temporary injunction to freeze the implementation of the anti-UNRWA laws, which were enacted in December 2025, allowing for the seizure of the agency's properties and cutting basic services to its facilities.
The court decided that there is, at this stage, no justification for issuing a temporary injunction, practically allowing the continuation of demolition operations at the UNRWA headquarters east of occupied Jerusalem, and the continued disconnection of the agency's facilities from vital services; according to a statement from the "Adalah" center.
The center noted that the court indicated that its decision is based on procedural grounds, stating that the petitioners have not yet submitted an amended petition that includes the recent legislative amendments enacted in December 2025. Accordingly, the court canceled the session that was scheduled for February 2, 2026, and obligated the petitioners to submit an amended petition by the 18th of that month.
This decision means that the operation of UNRWA and its infrastructure remain without legal protection at the present stage. Although the court mentioned that administrative avenues are still available to file appeals regarding specific procedures, it refrained from issuing any order to stop the ongoing assaults on the agency's work and infrastructure, as stated in the "Adalah" rights center's statement.
