A thwarted attack targeting the Israeli embassy in Azerbaijan
SadaNews - The authorities in Azerbaijan announced today, Tuesday, that they have thwarted an attack described as "terrorist" against a foreign embassy in the capital, Baku, while security sources stated that the attack was targeting the Israeli embassy.
Reuters reported that Azerbaijani authorities arrested three individuals on suspicion of planning an attack on a foreign embassy, based on directives from the "ISIS-Khorasan province," which is the Afghan branch of the organization.
The State Security Service said in a statement that the three accused individuals "conspired with elements of the organization, obtained weapons, and planned to attack the embassy before their arrest."
The statement noted that the suspects were arrested on charges of "preparing a terrorist act" out of religious hostility, emphasizing that investigations are ongoing to uncover all the details of the plot.
The "ISIS-Khorasan province" has not yet commented on what the authorities in Azerbaijan have announced.
