Trump Withdraws Canada's Invitation to the Peace Council
SadaNews - On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of his previous invitation to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to join the "Peace Council".
In a post on his platform "Truth Social" directed at Carney, Trump wrote that the council is rescinding its invitation to join what he described as "the most famous councils of leaders ever," adding: "Please consider this message as an announcement that the Peace Council is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s membership."
On Thursday, the U.S. president revealed the charter of the "Peace Council" at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The council, which Trump will preside over indefinitely, was intended to be a limited-mandate body tasked with overseeing the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which was devastated by the two-year Israeli war. However, its aim has since expanded to include addressing conflicts worldwide, and the draft of the charter sent along with the invitations to join did not mention Gaza at all.
Trump has escalated his hostile rhetoric against Canada this week, posting on Tuesday a picture of North America showing Canada, Greenland, and Venezuela covered in the colors of the American flag.
