Election Commission: 12,400 New Citizens Registered in the Voter Registry

SadaNews - The spokesperson for the Central Election Commission, Farid Ta'mallah, stated that on the second day of the field registration process, 12,403 new citizens were registered in the voter registry.

He added in a statement issued by the Election Commission today, Thursday, that 3,124 citizens have transferred their polling places and changed their registration body and location.

Ta'mallah indicated that 46,336 citizens inquired about their polling centers through the Commission's website.

He noted that the electronic and field registration processes are still ongoing until 2 PM on Saturday, when registration in both pathways will close.

He continued that the field registration teams are present daily from 9 AM to 2 PM at all local authorities and the offices of the Commission's departments in the provinces, including tomorrow, Friday.

He called on citizens who have not yet registered to hurry to register, either electronically through the Commission's website or at field registration centers, emphasizing that registration is a prerequisite for voting and running for office, and this right cannot be exercised without being registered in the voter list.

Ta'mallah explained that in previous years, the Commission faced situations where individuals wishing to run for office were unable to do so due to their failure to register beforehand in the voter registry, which resulted in the loss of their right to run.

He confirmed that the indicators of registration and inquiries reflect an increasing interest from citizens in local elections, and early preparations for candidacy have been observed in several villages and towns, which is a positive and encouraging indicator for participation in the electoral process.
