Norway Joins Sweden in Rejecting Trump's Invitation to Join the 'Peace Council'
SadaNews - The Norwegian Prime Minister's Office announced, through the "France Presse" agency, that Norway will not respond to U.S. President Donald Trump's invitation to join what is dubbed the "Peace Council", following Sweden's stance, which was confirmed by its Prime Minister, stating that it will not participate in the council in its current form.
President Trump is seeking to announce the formation of this council under his leadership soon, aiming for strategic oversight of implementing a comprehensive plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip. However, the charter revealed by the White House grants the council broader powers, as it stipulates ensuring "permanent peace in conflict-affected or threatened areas", raising widespread controversy over the nature of its global role.
Several countries have expressed reservations about the project, considering that the council could form a competing or alternative body to the United Nations, while international positions have been divided between countries announcing their agreement to join and others firmly rejecting it, while some countries preferred to delay responding to the U.S. invitation.
This dual European stance from Norway and Sweden reflects increasing concern that the "Peace Council" could turn into a new political tool in the hands of Washington, at a time when the world is witnessing rising tensions in multiple conflict regions.
