Jordan Warns of Consequences of Illegal Israeli Actions Against UNRWA
SadaNews - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned the Israeli occupation police’s actions in demolishing buildings within the premises of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem; marking a serious escalation and a blatant violation of international law, as well as an infringement on the privileges and immunities of United Nations organizations.
The official spokesperson for the ministry, Ambassador Fouad Majali, affirmed the Kingdom's absolute rejection and strong condemnation of this illegal and unlawful act, and the continued systematic campaign by Israel, the occupying power, to target UNRWA and its existence and vital activities that cannot be abolished or replaced in providing services to Palestinian refugees in its five operational areas, in accordance with its UN mandate.
Majali pointed out that the Israeli actions target UNRWA's existence and its symbolism, which reaffirms the right of Palestinian refugees to return and receive compensation under international law, in a clear attempt to deprive the Palestinian people of essential rights and services recognized by the international community and relevant UN resolutions, particularly resolution 194.
Majali warned of the consequences of the illegal Israeli actions against UNRWA and its institutions, calling on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, confront the Israeli decisions and practices targeting UNRWA, and provide the necessary political and financial support for the agency to continue delivering its essential services to Palestinian refugees.
