Hamas: Prisoners Face Harsh Conditions in Occupation Prisons
Gaza – Hamas stated that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are subjected to inhumane conditions, including torture and systematic abuse, calling on the international community for urgent intervention to end their suffering.
The movement said in a press statement that images broadcast by Israeli media showed brutal acts of abuse against the prisoners, and that what is happening represents a complete humanitarian crime and a blatant violation of international laws and treaties.
It added that the number of prisoners in Israeli jails has surpassed 9,300, including thousands of administratively detained without trial or charge, noting that the prisoners suffer from policies of physical and psychological repression, deliberate medical neglect, deprivation of visits, in addition to restrictions and measures that threaten their lives and health.
Hamas called on the United Nations and international human rights and humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to stop these violations, hold the Israeli officials accountable, compel Israel to respect the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law, and allow international bodies to visit the prisons and assess the conditions of the prisoners.
The movement also urged Arab, Islamic, and international institutions to organize wide solidarity campaigns with the prisoners and to pressure for their release, emphasizing that "the prisoners are not just numbers, but human beings with rights, lives, and dignity."
