Death toll from train collision in Spain rises to 39
SadaNews - The death toll from the collision of high-speed trains in southern Spain has risen to at least 39, according to a new toll confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior to AFP on Monday morning.
The previous toll indicated 24 dead and 73 others injured as a result of the disaster that occurred in the Andalusia region, approximately 200 kilometers north of the city of Malaga.
The incident took place on January 18 at 19:40 local time (21:40 Moscow time), near the town of Adamus in the autonomous region of Andalusia.
A train belonging to the private transport company "Irio", on its way from Malaga to Madrid with 317 passengers on board, derailed and veered onto the adjacent track, where a train belonging to the national company "Renfe" was traveling from Madrid to the city of Huelva in Andalusia, which also derailed. The second train had about 100 passengers on board. The causes of the accident, which occurred near the city of Adamus in the province of Córdoba, are still unknown, and high-speed train services on the Madrid - Andalusia line have been suspended.
