Pakistan Announces Receiving a US Invitation to Join the 'Council of Peace' in Gaza

SadaNews - Pakistan announced on Sunday that it received an invitation from the United States to join the "Council of Peace," which was formed as part of the second phase of the ceasefire process in the Gaza Strip.

The "Council of Peace" is one of the main components of the plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, which the ceasefire agreement, in effect in Gaza since October 10, is based on.

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Tahir Hussain Andrabi, stated in a statement that US President Donald Trump officially invited the Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, to participate in the "Council of Peace," established for the Gaza Strip.

Andrabi emphasized that Pakistan will continue its communication and coordination with international efforts aimed at achieving peace and security in Gaza, stressing the importance of reaching a lasting and fair solution to the Palestinian issue, in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.

The UN Security Council had decided, in its Resolution No. 2803 issued on November 17, 2025, to support the "Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict," announced by the US president on September 29, 2025.

On Friday evening, Washington announced the formation of the members of the "Council of Peace" and the adoption of the "National Committee for Gaza Management" as part of four structures designated for managing the transitional phase in the region, which include: the Council of Peace, the Executive Council of Gaza, the National Committee for Gaza Management, and the International Stabilization Force.

The executive council includes members from the "Council of Peace," such as US envoy Steve Witkoff, former Trump advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Jewish American billionaire businessman Mark Rowan.

The council also includes Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy, Egyptian General Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad, former UN envoy to the Middle East Nikolai Mladenov, businessman Yakir Gabay, and Dutch politician Sigrid Kaag.

Mladenov will assume the role of "High Representative for Gaza" to serve as a bridge between the Council of Peace and the National Committee for Gaza Management, in addition to overseeing the coordination of civilian and security aspects in the region.

These structures are in accordance with the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, which Trump announced had begun last Thursday, while Israel continues to breach the agreement daily, resulting in the martyrdom of 464 individuals and injuring 1,275 others as of Saturday, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

Israel is also violating the agreement by preventing the entry of the agreed quantities of food, medicine, medical supplies, and shelter materials into the region.
