Trump to Iranians: Thank You for Canceling Executions
SadaNews - After the intensity of American threats of military action against Iran has decreased in recent hours, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his gratitude.
"Thank you!"
The President of the United States sent a message of thanks via his platform "Truth Social" today, Friday, stating: "I greatly appreciate the Iranian leadership's cancellation of all executions scheduled for yesterday (over 800 executions)."
He concluded his tweet by saying: "Thank you!".
He also noted that he convinced himself not to strike Iran after the cancellations of the executions yesterday.
This came after U.S. Special Envoy Steve Whittaker revealed that he had communicated with the Iranians.
In statements today, Friday, he said, "We communicated with the Iranians regarding our concerns about the killings and executions of protesters," as reported by the newspaper "Israel Hayom".
He also confirmed that a direct message was sent to Iran. He stated: "Trump warned the Iranians.. Under his direction, we contacted them yesterday about our concerns regarding the killings and the mass executions.. and that has stopped."
He added: "Trump alone has the unquestionable power that brings people to heel," as he put it.
Nevertheless, he emphasized his hope for a diplomatic resolution. He pointed out that "there are four issues that need to be resolved namely: uranium enrichment, missiles, and their proxies in the Middle East."
He observed that "Iran is in a difficult economic situation, as there is no water for 16 hours a day, no electricity for 12 hours a day, and inflation exceeds 50%." He said: "If they want to return to the international community, that can be resolved diplomatically.. because the alternative is bad."
Furthermore, he sent a direct message to the Iranian protesters, saying: "These are exceptionally brave people.. and we stand with them."
Trump announced yesterday that he was informed that "the killings of the protesters have stopped," describing it as a positive move.
"No Executions"
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed in a television interview with Fox News on Wednesday night that no executions will be carried out against the protesters.
These statements came after tensions between the two countries escalated, following Trump's threat to intervene to protect the protesters.
Tehran responded by stating that it would target American bases in the region as well as Israel if it comes under military attack.
Iran has witnessed protests since December 28 regarding the economic and living conditions, which turned in some areas into political demands and slogans against the regime.
The protests were marked by clashes between security forces and demonstrators, resulting in the deaths of hundreds, according to Iranian authorities.
However, Araghchi noted that "some terrorist elements infiltrated among the protesters and fired shots to increase the number of casualties," as he expressed.
