Report: Israel Sticks to Mount Sheikh and Rejects Any Withdrawal Despite Paris Negotiations
SadaNews - A report from Maariv cited a senior Israeli source confirming that Tel Aviv's stance during the negotiations held in Paris with the Syrian side remains firm and non-negotiable, primarily involving the refusal to withdraw from the summit of Mount Sheikh within Syrian territory.
The source indicated that Israel thwarted Syrian attempts to restore Russian presence in southern Syria, fearing that this would disrupt Israeli military operations in the region. Moreover, Tel Aviv will not allow southern Syria to become an area where the freedom of military action is restricted due to foreign presence.
According to the newspaper, what was achieved in Paris through American mediation amounts to only partial and limited progress, restricted to the establishment of a mechanism aimed at preventing direct clashes on the ground between the parties.
