Bloomberg: Trump to Soon Reveal Members of the "Peace Council" for Gaza

SadaNews - It is expected that U.S. President Donald Trump will announce this week the names of individuals who will participate in the "Peace Council" to manage his plan regarding the Gaza Strip, according to Bloomberg's report from officials.

The council is composed mostly of heads of governments or states, chaired by Trump, and aims to lead the reconstruction process of the Gaza Strip, as outlined in Trump's 20-point plan, which led to a ceasefire on October 10 last.

The council aims to assist in forming a transitional technocratic government in the Gaza Strip, deploying an "international stabilization force," as well as providing the necessary funding.

It is still unclear who will be included in the council, as only the nominee for the executive director has been announced, the Bulgarian diplomat Nikolai Mladenov.

Bishara Bahbah, founder and president of the "Americans for Global Peace" organization, stated in a message directed to the people of Gaza on Saturday that "the announcement of the Peace Council for Gaza is expected during the coming week, with its first official meeting to be held on the sidelines of the Davos meetings in the third week of this month."

Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Mladenov and emphasized during the meeting "the necessity of dismantling Hamas and disarming the Gaza Strip in accordance with the 20-point plan," according to an Israeli statement.

This comes at a time when member of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Muhammad Nazzal confirmed that a delegation from the movement headed to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Sunday to discuss the political and field developments in the Gaza Strip starting on Monday.

He stressed that the meeting will also discuss the continuation of implementing the ceasefire agreement, in light of what he described as significant difficulties obstructing its implementation, and the ongoing Israeli violations.

He added that the Hamas delegation is working in coordination with other Palestinian forces to smooth the obstacles to forming the committee that will manage the sector, affirming that it should be purely Palestinian, and that its basic reference must be Palestinian, while striving for consensus on its members.

He confirmed that Hamas was officially informed of Nikolai Mladenov's name as a candidate to be part of the proposed administration for the Gaza Strip, noting that his name was suggested instead of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who faced reservations from several parties due to his previous positions and biases.
