Israel Raises Alert Level in Anticipation of U.S. Intervention in Iran
SadaNews - Three informed Israeli sources reported that Tel Aviv has raised its alert level in anticipation of any U.S. intervention in Iran, which is currently facing the largest anti-government protests in years.
U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened intervention in recent days, warning Iranian officials against using force against protesters.
On Saturday, Trump stated that the United States is "ready to help".
The sources, who were present at Israeli security consultations over the weekend, did not clarify what raising Israel's alert level practically entails.
Israel and Iran fought a 12-day war in June.
In a phone call on Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the possibility of U.S. intervention in Iran, according to an informed Israeli source.
An American official confirmed that Rubio and Netanyahu spoke, but did not disclose the topics they discussed.
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf asserted that any American military aggression against his country would be considered a declaration of war, emphasizing that Tehran would respond by targeting Israel and U.S. bases in the region as legitimate targets. He added that Iran's stance is clear and resolute in facing what he described as U.S. escalation.
