Iran: No Change in Our Relationship with Venezuela Despite Maduro's Departure
SadaNews - The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baqaei, stated in a press conference in Tehran that Iran's relations with Venezuela will remain unchanged despite the departure of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from power, following the kidnapping of Maduro and his wife by U.S. special forces over the weekend and their transfer to New York.
Baqaei added, "Our relations with any country will continue to be based on mutual respect and shared interests, and this principle will also remain the foundation of our relations in the future." The Iranian official mentioned that communications between Tehran and Venezuelan officials are ongoing.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry called for the release of the Venezuelan president, stating, "A head of state has been kidnapped, which is illegal and in no way something to be proud of. The President of Venezuela must be released."
