Gaza Needs 200,000 Prefabricated Housing Units to Meet Humanitarian Needs
SadaNews - The government operations room stated that the Gaza Strip needs approximately 200,000 prefabricated housing units to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the displaced and ensure safer shelter against harsh weather conditions.
The government operations room added in a press statement today, Sunday, that the current low-pressure system caused the flooding and tearing of thousands of tents belonging to the displaced in various areas of the strip, exacerbating the humanitarian emergency.
The statement indicated that the coastal Al-Rasheed Street, which stretches about 26 km, was flooded, and the tents of the displaced set up along the street were damaged due to the tidal waves accompanying the low-pressure system.
It emphasized that the harsh weather conditions have doubled the suffering of Palestinian displaced persons living in flimsy tents that do not provide the minimum protection against rainwater leakage or extreme cold, pointing out that collapses have been recorded in partially destroyed homes, posing a direct threat to the lives of their residents, amid the lack of safe alternatives for shelter.
It indicated that humanitarian institutions are unable to meet the urgent needs of the displaced due to the acute shortage of supplies and the continued restrictions of the occupation on the entry of aid into the strip.
The United Nations and international institutions were urged to pressure the Israeli occupation to allow the immediate entry of prefabricated housing units and shelter supplies to alleviate the suffering of the displaced and reduce the risks threatening their lives.
