Israel Seeks U.S. 'Green Light' to Strike Iran and Hezbollah
SadaNews - On Sunday, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will seek a 'green light' during his meeting with President Donald Trump for a future attack on Iran.
Netanyahu is heading to the United States on Sunday, and will meet President Trump in Florida the following day, according to an Israeli official speaking to Agence France-Presse.
According to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, Netanyahu is expected to present evidence to Trump regarding Iran's success in reviving its ballistic missile program.
In related news, Israeli Channel 14 reported that Israel acknowledges the increasing Iranian threat, but forecasts indicate that a conflict with Iran is unlikely in the near future.
The channel also mentioned that during the meeting with Trump, Netanyahu will seek U.S. approval for military action in the near future against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Netanyahu intends to provide Trump with updated intelligence during their meeting in Florida, indicating that Iran is producing large quantities of ballistic missiles capable of striking Israel, according to an Israeli official.
The newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted the official as saying: "If the Americans do not reach an agreement with Iran that halts its ballistic missile program, it may be necessary to confront it. We hope Trump will succeed in reaching an agreement, but we must be prepared for the possibility of failure."
Iran announced this week that its ballistic missile production is 'non-negotiable,' and Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqaei stated that the missiles are intended for self-defense and deterrence.
The Israeli official, whose name was withheld by Yedioth Ahronoth, described the Iranian missile buildup as a serious threat, stating that a saturation launch towards Israel could cause destruction comparable to that of a small nuclear bomb.
Previous estimates published by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal indicated that Iran is capable of producing hundreds of missiles monthly if it successfully operates its factories at full capacity.
Israel carried out strikes in June on Iranian military and nuclear sites, to which Iran responded by launching drone attacks and missiles at Israel. Later in the 12-day conflict, the United States joined Israel in bombing Iranian nuclear facilities.
