Egypt, Somalia, Turkey, and Djibouti Reject Israel's Recognition of Somaliland
SadaNews - The foreign ministers of Egypt, Somalia, Djibouti, and Turkey condemned Israel's recognition of the "Somaliland" region as a sovereign state, asserting their complete rejection of this step due to what it represents as a violation of the unity and sovereignty of Somali territories and a threat to stability in the Horn of Africa. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that Foreign and Immigration Minister Badr Abdel Aty received, on Friday, phone calls from Abdulsalam Abdi Ali, the Foreign Minister of Somalia, Hakan Fidan, the Foreign Minister of Turkey, and Abdirahman Hussein Omar, the Foreign Minister of Djibouti, discussing the serious developments in the Horn of Africa. According to the statement, the ministers underscored their full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, and their rejection of any unilateral actions that may affect Somali sovereignty or undermine the foundations of stability, reaffirming their support for the legitimate Somali state institutions and rejecting any attempts to impose parallel entities that contradict the unity of the state. They also emphasized that recognizing the independence of parts of countries' territories constitutes a dangerous precedent and a threat to international peace and security, and a violation of the established principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, stressing that respecting the unity, sovereignty, and integrity of countries' territories is a fundamental pillar for the stability of the international system.
