President: We are ready to work with Trump, mediators, and partners for a fair and comprehensive peace

SadaNews - President Mahmoud Abbas stated that we are ready to work with President Trump, mediators, and partners to achieve a fair and comprehensive peace, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The president confirmed during a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah today, Monday, the importance of the role that Greece, supported by the European Union, can play in enhancing opportunities for peace and stability in our region and the world.

The president emphasized the need to pressure the Israeli government to stop undermining our national institutions and destroying the two-state solution through settlement expansion and settler terrorism, to release our withheld funds, and to stop the assaults on our Christian and Islamic holy sites.

He stressed the urgent need to implement President Trump's plan and Security Council Resolution No. (2803), by establishing a ceasefire, ensuring the immediate flow of humanitarian aid in terms of food, medicine, and shelter materials, preventing displacement, the immediate withdrawal of Israeli occupying forces, and enabling the Palestinian government and its national security agencies to fully assume their responsibilities, along with accelerating reconstruction efforts.

He said: This important visit reflects the depth of the historical friendship between our two countries and peoples, reaffirming the shared values that bind us in the context of Mediterranean neighborhood and partnership with the European Union.

The president expressed gratitude and appreciation to Greece for its supportive positions on the rights of the Palestinian people in international forums and for its steadfast commitment to achieving a fair and comprehensive peace according to the two-state solution vision, valuing its humanitarian aid to our people in the Gaza Strip.

Mr. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis,

I am pleased to welcome you as a dear guest to Palestine, on this important visit that reflects the depth of the historical friendship between our two countries and peoples, affirming the shared values that bind us in the context of Mediterranean neighborhood and partnership with the European Union.

I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to Greece for its supportive positions on the rights of the Palestinian people in international forums and for its steadfast commitment to achieving a fair and comprehensive peace according to the two-state solution vision, as we highly value its humanitarian aid to our people in the Gaza Strip.

We would like to update you on the latest developments to emphasize the urgent need for the implementation of President Trump's plan and Security Council Resolution No. (2803), through stabilizing a ceasefire, ensuring the immediate flow of humanitarian aid in terms of food, medicine, and shelter materials, preventing displacement, the immediate withdrawal of Israeli occupying forces, and empowering the Palestinian government and its national security agencies to fully assume their responsibilities, along with accelerating reconstruction efforts.

We reiterate the importance of pressuring the Israeli government to stop undermining our national institutions and destroying the two-state solution through settlement expansion and settler terrorism, to release our withheld funds, and to stop the assaults on our Christian and Islamic holy sites.

We reaffirm the readiness of the State of Palestine to work with President Trump, mediators, and partners to achieve a fair and comprehensive peace, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, while also highlighting the important role that Greece, supported by the European Union, can play in enhancing opportunities for peace and stability in our region and the world.

For his part, Greek Prime Minister said: "I am pleased to meet with you today to discuss highly important issues, as well as to reaffirm Greece's firm commitment to dialogue, stability, and peace in the Middle East."

He expressed his sincere condolences for the loss of civilians in Gaza and for the suffering experienced by all innocent victims and their families, adding that protecting civilians and respecting international law and international humanitarian law are fundamental principles, which my country continues to emphasize in its contacts with all parties.

He noted his country's active contribution to efforts to alleviate humanitarian suffering by providing significant humanitarian assistance and financial contributions, and delivering relief supplies in cooperation with international partners working on the ground, and we are ready to continue contributing always in coordination with our partners.

The Greek Prime Minister clarified that the peace plan with its twenty points constitutes a reliable and applicable framework for addressing urgent needs on the ground, and the real challenge before us is how to assist in moving to the next steps for implementing this plan, while also contributing to shaping a reliable political horizon.

He stressed Greece's ongoing support for the two-state solution in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions, as a basis for achieving a just and lasting peace for both Palestinians and Israelis, and I appreciate your recognition of Greece's role as a reliable and respected party, as well as benefiting from our position on the UN Security Council.

He affirmed that Greece will do everything it can as a country belonging to this region and understanding it perhaps more than others, to seize this opportunity and move forward in the desired direction, leading to achieving a lasting and stable peace in the Middle East.

The Greek Prime Minister emphasized his country's support for the Palestinian Authority, commending the substantial reforms you are undertaking, and expressing readiness to provide assistance in any way possible, in a manner that enhances Palestinian operational and institutional capacities and ensures the desired results for the Palestinian people.
