Lazzarini: 1.6 Million People in Gaza Suffer from Food Insecurity
SadaNews - The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, warned that 1.6 million people in the Gaza Strip are still facing high levels of severe food insecurity.
Lazzarini added today, Friday, that the latest report from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification shows the fragility of the gains made since the ceasefire began last October.
He emphasized that "to end this catastrophe, supplies must be allowed to enter on a wide scale, and humanitarian workers must be enabled to carry out their tasks."
He confirmed that UNRWA has food parcels sufficient for 1.1 million people and flour that is enough for the entire population of the Gaza Strip, and they are waiting for permission to enter the territory.
