As the Year Comes to a Close.. Israel Prepares for a Possible Battle in Lebanon and Trump Calls for Calm
SadaNews - The newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israel is preparing for a military confrontation with Hezbollah as the deadline for disarming it in southern Lebanon approaches at the end of the year, while Washington still sees the possibility of preventing escalation.
The newspaper quoted Israeli officials stating that a confrontation with Hezbollah has become inevitable as the organization "is recovering and strengthening at a faster pace," and Israel has informed Washington that the Lebanese army is not fulfilling the required mission.
Yedioth Ahronoth pointed out that U.S. support for a broad Israeli military operation against Hezbollah has declined at this stage.
Previously, Israel Hayom reported that the Israeli security establishment is seeking to engage in several days of fighting in Lebanon, during which Hezbollah's military capabilities will be destroyed not only in the southern region but in other areas as well, focusing on the capital, Beirut, where Hezbollah is rehabilitating its infrastructure, according to the Israeli newspaper.
Israel Hayom noted that Netanyahu will discuss with Trump the necessity for Israel to take action against Hezbollah and coordinate these movements with him, amidst Israel's doubts regarding the Lebanese army's ability to disarm the group.
It also noted that the U.S. president will seek to exhaust diplomatic solutions in Lebanon before taking any decisive action.
