Pro-Israel.. Far-right Candidate Wins Presidency of Chile
SadaNews - Far-right candidate José Antonio Kast has won the presidency of Chile, according to the results announced by the electoral authority after the majority of votes were counted, while his opponent Janet Hara conceded her defeat.
Kast received 58% of the votes compared to 42% for his leftist opponent during the runoff of the presidential election held on Sunday.
Hara stated in a social media post that "democracy has spoken loudly and clearly." She added that she had contacted the elected president to wish him success.
The conservative Catholic Kast has been described as the most right-wing president in Chile since the end of Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship 35 years ago.
He focused his campaign on fighting crime and promised to deport nearly 340,000 undocumented migrants, most of whom are Venezuelans.
Kast openly supports the military dictatorship, stating that he would have voted for Pinochet if he were still alive.
His victory represents the latest triumph for the rising right-wing movement in Latin America, joining Daniel Noboa in Ecuador, Najib Bukele in El Salvador, and Javier Milei in Argentina.
