Egypt Reiterates Rejection of Displacing Gaza Residents and Calls for Swift Formation of Stability Force
SadaNews - Egypt reaffirmed on Saturday its "categorical" rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians from Gaza, emphasizing the necessity of establishing a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelattit stressed that solidifying the ceasefire is a top priority as it is the essential gateway for the full implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan and the organized transition to its second phase, which ensures the unobstructed flow of humanitarian aid and the initiation of early recovery efforts and reconstruction, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry.
During a meeting with Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, on the sidelines of the Sir Bani Yas Forum in the UAE, Abdelattit emphasized the "vital role of the United Nations and its agencies, particularly the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, in protecting civilians, monitoring violations, and ensuring humanitarian access, in addition to the importance of continuing close coordination with the international organization to support stability and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people".
Abdelattit also met with his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, where they discussed enhancing bilateral relations and "building on the positive momentum experienced in various fields, in light of the solid ties and strategic partnership shared by both leaderships and peoples".
Both sides exchanged views on several issues and regional files of mutual interest, including the Palestinian cause and conditions in the West Bank, the implementation of the second phase of Trump's peace plan in Gaza, as well as developments in Sudan, the existing coordination within the framework of the Quadruple Group regarding the Sudanese crisis, and situations in Yemen, Syria, and Libya.
Gaza Stability Force
During his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron's Middle East Advisor, Claire Logendre, Abdelattit emphasized the need for international cooperation to ensure the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2803 and the swift formation of an international stability force in Gaza. He pointed out the importance of proceeding with the establishment of a Palestinian technocrat committee to manage the Gaza Strip.
He also stressed the "importance of creating a political horizon to reach a fair and sustainable settlement of the Palestinian issue through the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state".
During the meeting, he addressed the situation in Sudan, where Abdelattit briefed the French official on Egypt's efforts under the Quartet to achieve a ceasefire allowing for a comprehensive political process in Sudan, reaffirming Egypt's static position on Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and rejecting division, while supporting state institutions.
He also emphasized the necessity of unifying regional and international efforts to advance the path of de-escalation and reach a ceasefire and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid.
The Egyptian minister reiterated Cairo's steadfast position against any infringement on Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as supporting national institutions in fulfilling their responsibilities to maintain Lebanon's security and stability, stressing the importance of preventing escalation and rejecting any violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
Support for the Palestinian Authority
The Egyptian minister underscored Egypt's full support for enhancing the role of the Palestinian Authority and enabling it to fulfill its responsibilities in Gaza and the West Bank, contributing to restoring stability, preventing attempts to impose new realities on the ground, and creating the climate for reconstruction and embarking on a comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian issue.
The Sir Bani Yas Forum is an annual gathering hosted by the UAE, bringing together senior officials, decision-makers, and experts from different countries to discuss the most important regional and international issues.
