Haaretz: Italy Committed to Sending Troops to Gaza
SadaNews - According to well-informed sources, including a Western diplomat, the newspaper "Haaretz" reported that Italy has committed to the United States to send troops to participate in the international stabilization force in the Gaza Strip.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced, a few days after the ceasefire between "Israel" and Hamas came into effect, that his country would participate in the stabilization force. However, sources confirmed that this commitment has now become a tangible obligation, in addition to its commitment regarding the number of soldiers it can provide for this mission.
According to the same sources, Italy is the only country so far to have made such a commitment.
Official sources reported that the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) will hold a conference in Doha on Tuesday to discuss the plan to establish a peacekeeping force. Consideration is being given to the possibility of a senior American general taking command of the force. In contrast, an official American security source declined to confirm the conference to Haaretz.
