Israeli Minister: War with Syria is Inevitable

SadaNews - On Wednesday, Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Shikli stated that "war with Syria is inevitable," in a tweet he posted on his account on the platform "X."

According to Israeli Channel 12, the tweet was in response to a video showing Syrian soldiers during the celebrations of the fall of Assad, chanting: "Gaza, Gaza, the call of our unity, our victory and strength, day and night."

Shikli's remarks also came amid rising tensions on the border, following an incident where the Israeli military fired live ammunition and smoke grenades directly at Syrian civilians in Quneitra.

In the same context, the newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" revealed that the Quneitra incident coincided with a field visit made by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Wells and Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon in the region.

According to the Hebrew newspaper, at least two Syrian civilians were injured due to what the Israeli military described as "warning fire."

Syrian reports indicated that a protest erupted in Khan Arnabah against the presence of the Israeli army and the activity of drones in the airspace of the area.

Following the fall of former President Bashar Assad, Israel has deployed soldiers in the buffer zone controlled by the United Nations between the Golan Heights and the territories controlled by Syria, including on the Syrian side of Mount Sheikh.

According to Netanyahu, the military presence in the area is essential to ensure the security of Israeli citizens and to prevent attacks from the bordering areas.

Syrian Foreign Minister As'ad al-Shabani confirmed on Sunday that Syria would not enter into any agreement with Israel without its withdrawal from the areas it entered after December 8, noting that since December 7, Israel has represented a concern for Syrians.
