Senegalese Imams Union Condemns Clerics' Visit to "Israel"
SadaNews - The Senegalese Union of Imams and Preachers strongly condemned the visit of a group of Muslim clerics to "Israel".
The Union issued a statement yesterday, Monday, commenting on the visit of a group of African clerics, including Senegalese, to Israel, stating that the Senegalese clerics participating in the delegation do not represent the Imams of the country or its people in any way.
It pointed out that the visit clearly contradicts the official position of Senegal and the stance of its religious scholars regarding Palestine.
It reminded that Senegal has chaired the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People continuously since its establishment in 1975.
Hebrew media reported that a group of imams and journalists from French-speaking West African countries were invited to Jerusalem as part of a program organized by the occupying Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The President of the Israeli occupation, Isaac Herzog, welcomed the group, which includes clerics and journalists from Senegal, Togo, Ivory Coast, Benin, and Cameroon, on December 1st.
