Prisoners' Authority: Serious Health and Living Violations in Ofer Prison
SadaNews: The Palestinian Authority for Prisoners and Released Prisoners reported today, Tuesday, that Ofer Prison is experiencing a serious deterioration in the health and living conditions of prisoners, noting a variety of violations including medical neglect, abuse, repeated raids on sections, affecting both adult prisoners as well as one minor among the documented cases.
The Authority's lawyer mentioned that minor prisoner Nizar Khaled Asi (17 years old) from Beit Liqya/Ramallah was arrested on 07/04/2025 after being shot twice in the head during clashes in his town, where soldiers prevented the Palestinian medical team from providing treatment. He was later transferred to the hospital and then to Ofer Prison, where he has been detained for eight months without a verdict against him.
Asi suffers from near-total hearing loss and needs hearing aids; however, one of the aids is defective and the prison administration refuses to repair or replace it, while only providing him with batteries for the other aid. He has also contracted the widespread scabies in section 25, with no quarantining of the infected or proper treatment provided, as the administration has ceased supplying them with medical ointments.
Asi confirmed that minors are experiencing the same treatment as adult prisoners, facing assaults, raids, poor food quality, and insufficient quantities.
In this context, prisoner Amro Mohammed Sayaarah suffers from kidney and urinary tract infections, as well as sinusitis, causing him sharp pains and constant headaches without receiving treatment despite his repeated requests. He has lost a significant amount of weight since his arrest on 10/06/2025.
The report highlighted near-daily raids on the sections, indicating that a special force raided section 12 two weeks ago, searched it completely, confiscated prisoners’ belongings, imposed collective punishments, and injured a number of them with rubber bullets.
Prisoner Mohammed Naeem Badr (24 years old) from Beit Daqou/Jerusalem, who has been detained since 25/06/2024, is suffering from severe tooth pain that keeps him from sleeping, without receiving the necessary treatment. He has lost more than 40 kilograms of weight during his detention.
In the same context, the Authority's lawyer visited two other prisoners and described their conditions as stable, namely: Mohammed Ahmad Mohammed Zaid (25 years old) – Al-Jalazoun camp, detained since 29/07/2025, and Yusuf Ahmad Mateer (18 years old), detained since 05/09/2025.
