UN Lowers Its Appeal for Assistance in 2026 Despite Increasing Needs
SadaNews - On Monday, the United Nations called for a budget for assistance that is no more than half of what it hoped for this year, admitting to a drop in donor funding at a time when humanitarian needs are greater than ever.
By its own admission, the UN's appeal, valued at $23 billion, will lead to the exclusion of tens of millions of people who are in urgent need of assistance, as the decline in support has forced it to prioritize only the most needy individuals.
The funding cuts come on top of other challenges faced by relief agencies, including the security risks posed to staff in conflict areas and the inability to access those regions.
