The Highest-Level Meeting Since the Ceasefire in Gaza: Witkoff Meets with the Head of Mossad and a Senior Qatari Official in New York

SadaNews - The U.S. envoy, Steve Witkoff, is meeting with the head of the Mossad as well as a high-ranking Qatari official in a "summit" that marks the highest level of meetings held between the parties since the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

This was reported by Israeli Channel 12 in a report on Sunday evening, indicating that the United States, Israel, and Qatar are "holding a trilateral summit in New York today, as part of the process to restore relations among the countries that began with an apology from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the (failed) Israeli assault in Doha," according to two sources familiar with the anticipated meeting, who were not named.

The report stated that "this meeting is the highest-level assembly among the states since signing the agreement to end the war in Gaza"; it is also held at a time when the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is "preparing to announce later this month the transition to the second phase of the agreement."

The report mentioned that the head of Mossad, David Barnea, "is participating in the summit alongside a senior Qatari official and White House envoy Steve Witkoff," according to the sources.

While the report recalled that Netanyahu had apologized following the assault on Doha to the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, during his meeting with Trump at the White House, wherein a senior Qatari security official was also mentioned; it pointed out that "during that phone call, also present in the Oval Office with Netanyahu and Trump was the close advisor to the Emir of Qatar, Ali Al-Duhadi."

It added that Al-Duhadi "currently handles the Israeli file in the Qatari government."

As part of ending the crisis at that time, and to allow Doha to fully resume its mediation efforts with Hamas regarding the agreement to end the war in Gaza, Netanyahu offered his apology based on an American request; Netanyahu and the Qatari Prime Minister also agreed to Trump's proposal to establish a trilateral mechanism "to enhance coordination, improve communication, resolve mutual grievances, and strengthen joint efforts to mitigate threats."
