Gaza Health: 52% of Essential Medicines are at Zero Balance

SadaNews - The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip warned on Sunday that 52% of essential medicines are at "zero balance".

This came in a statement from the ministry regarding the consequences of the continued violation by the Israeli occupation of the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since October 10.

The ministry stated that "the zero balances of medicines and medical consumables are still exceeding catastrophic levels".

It explained that "52% of the list of essential medicines, 71% of the lists of medical consumables, and 70% of laboratory consumables are at zero balance".

It emphasized that "the crisis is taking escalating curves with increased demand for therapeutic interventions for the wounded and sick".

The ministry clarified that "primary healthcare, surgery, operations, intensive care, cancer, and blood diseases are the services that are suffering from severe shortages in the lists of medicines".

Meanwhile, "the departments of orthopedic surgery, kidneys, dialysis, ophthalmology, general surgery, operations, and critical care face catastrophic challenges due to the shortage of medical consumables", according to the statement.

The ministry called for "enhancing urgent medical supplies to enable the medical teams in the specialized departments to work".

The Israeli occupation prevents the entry of sufficient quantities of medicines, medical supplies, and foodstuffs into Gaza, where approximately 2.4 million Palestinians are suffering from dire conditions.

It also violates the agreement daily by shelling, which has killed 373 Palestinians and injured 970, according to a second statement from the Ministry of Health in the besieged territory.

The agreement was supposed to end a genocide that the Israeli occupation has committed for two years since October 8, 2023, resulting in more than 70,000 martyrs and over 171,000 Palestinian injuries, most of whom are children and women.
