The General Assembly Adopts 5 Resolutions in Favor of Palestine Including Renewal of UNRWA's Mandate

SadaNews - The United Nations General Assembly adopted today, Friday, 5 resolutions in favor of Palestine, with an overwhelming majority.

The first resolution concerning aid to Palestinian refugees received the support of 151 countries, with 10 opposed and 14 abstaining.

The second resolution related to the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which includes renewing its mandate for three years, received the backing of 145 countries, with 10 opposed and 18 abstaining.

The third resolution concerning the properties of Palestinian refugees and the revenues derived from them received the support of 157 countries, with 10 opposed and 9 abstaining.

The fourth resolution regarding the work of the Special Committee investigating Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arab inhabitants in the occupied territories received the backing of 88 countries, with 19 opposed and 64 abstaining.

The fifth resolution concerning Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan, received the support of 146 countries, with 13 opposed and 17 abstaining.

Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Minister Riad Mansour, thanked the countries for their significant support and the growing sympathy of the international community, especially regarding the issue of Palestinian refugees, which comes amid the brutal Israeli aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

For his part, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini praised the overwhelming vote by the UN General Assembly to renew UNRWA’s mandate for three years, affirming that the decision reflects broad solidarity from around the world with Palestinian refugees.

In a statement today, he added that the decision also represents an acknowledgment of the international community's responsibility to support the humanitarian and developmental needs of Palestinian refugees until a just and lasting solution to their ongoing suffering, which has lasted for decades, is found.

The Commissioner-General of UNRWA emphasized the necessity of translating this vote into a real commitment and providing the necessary resources to ensure the fulfillment of this mandate.
