The Election Commission Announces the Legal Timelines for the 2026 Local Elections
SadaNews - The Central Election Commission announced today, Thursday, the schedule of legal timelines for the 2026 local elections, according to a Cabinet decision which mandates holding the electoral process on April 25th.
Based on the decision of the Law on the Election of Local Authority Councils No. (23) for the year 2025, the Election Commission clarified that the registration phase extends from January 20 to January 24, 2026, followed by the publication and objection phase from February 7 to February 9. The nomination period will open for 7 days from the morning of February 23, 2026, until the evening of March 1, 2026, and the final lists of names and candidates are scheduled to be published on March 31, 2026.
According to the timeline, the election campaigning period starts on April 10, 2026, for 14 days, concluding on the evening of April 23, 2026. Saturday, April 25, 2026, will be the voting day as scheduled by the Cabinet, and the election results will be announced within 72 hours of the end of the counting process.
