EU Sets End of 2027 for Ban on Russian Gas Imports
SadaNews Economy - The member states of the European Union aim to end all imports of Russian gas by the end of 2027, according to an agreement reached by the governments of the member states and the European Parliament in Brussels.
Under the plan, for short-term contracts concluded before June 17, 2025, the ban on importing Russian gas will come into effect starting April 25, 2026, for liquefied natural gas, and from June 17, 2026, for gas via pipelines.
As for long-term liquefied natural gas contracts, the ban will apply starting January 1, 2027, in line with the EU's nineteenth package of sanctions.
Meanwhile, long-term pipeline gas contracts will be gradually phased out starting September 30, 2027, provided that gas storage targets are met, and at the latest by November 1, 2027.
