Qatar: No New Developments on the Start of the Second Phase of the Ceasefire Agreement
SadaNews - The spokesperson for the Qatari foreign ministry, Majid Al-Ansari, said on Tuesday that mediation efforts regarding the Gaza agreement are ongoing, and that breaches of the agreement are concerning, with no new developments regarding the commencement of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
Al-Ansari confirmed in a press conference in the Qatari capital, Doha, that his country continues to monitor the Gaza agreement and is working to prevent the current truce from collapsing, emphasizing that Doha has confidence in U.S. President Donald Trump's plan and in the role of mediators.
He also confirmed that efforts are underway to transform the current ceasefire into a pathway to the second phase of the Gaza agreement.
He stressed that any breach of the ceasefire in Gaza poses a threat to it and undermines its effectiveness, noting that it is considered the longest ceasefire despite the breaches.
The first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas began on October 10th after a massacre committed by Tel Aviv in the Gaza Strip since October 8, 2023, which resulted in more than 70,000 martyrs and over 170,000 injured, mostly children and women, alongside widespread destruction, with the United Nations estimating the cost of reconstructing the area at around $70 billion.
