Director of UNRWA Affairs in the West Bank: The Israeli army continues destruction and demolition in the camps in northern West Bank

SadaNews - Roland Frederick, the Director of UNRWA Affairs in the West Bank, stated that destruction in the refugee camps in northern West Bank has been relentless for more than ten months since the beginning of the Israeli occupation's aggression.

Frederick said in a press statement today, Thursday, that the Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nour Shams camps have been completely evacuated by the occupation forces, leaving about 32,000 of their residents forcibly displaced, as these camps have turned into ghost towns, despite once being vibrant.

He added that the occupation army continues to issue new demolition orders under the pretext of "military purposes."

He clarified that the latest orders include the demolition of 12 buildings in the Jenin camp, in addition to partial demolition orders for 11 other buildings, which are scheduled to be implemented starting tomorrow, November 28, considering this a new development in the efforts to reshape the topography within the camps.

Frederick pointed out that collective demolition orders were issued during the months of March and June, targeting over 190 buildings in the Jenin camp, alongside the destruction of 20 other buildings in February using controlled demolition techniques.

He emphasized that this systematic destruction contradicts the fundamental principles of international law and only serves to enhance the long-term control of the occupation army over the camps, stressing that these camps need rebuilding, not more destruction, and that their residents should be allowed to return to their homes and regain their lives, rather than remain in ongoing forced displacement.
