Zamir Criticizes Katz Harshly in a First of Its Kind
Translation by SadaNews - In a first of its kind, Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir directed accusations at his minister, Israel Katz, on Monday evening, claiming he is harming the army and acting on political rather than professional motives.
This came in a statement published by Zamir in response to media reports about Katz’s rejection of the appointments and changes approved after investigations into the events of October 7 and the war, which he said he learned about from the media while participating in a surprise drill in the Golan Heights.
Zamir, as translated by SadaNews, pointed out that the report by the Turjeman team he formed to investigate the events of October 7 and the subsequent failures was conducted in a comprehensive and professional manner and not for political use, considering the questioning of the report as surprising.
He indicated that the Israeli army is the only entity that has investigated deeply into its failures and accepted responsibility for them, emphasizing the need to form an objective and independent external committee for the Israeli army to examine operations among the various institutions and responsibilities.
Zamir considered that extending the freeze on appointments in the Israeli army for an additional thirty days undermines the army's efficiency and its preparedness for upcoming challenges.
