Media: A Hamas delegation in Cairo to discuss the second phase in Gaza

SadaNews - Arab media revealed that a leadership delegation from the "Hamas" movement, headed by Khalil al-Hayya, arrived in Cairo today, Sunday, to hold talks with Egyptian intelligence officials regarding developments in the escalation in the Gaza Strip.

The delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with mediators to discuss the field developments and the second phase of the agreement related to Gaza, during a visit that sources indicated had been scheduled in advance, but will address the ongoing escalation.

This coincides with a rising international movement to push the process towards the second phase of the Gaza agreement, as Washington has begun steps to activate the peace council stipulated in the Security Council resolution, by reducing its military presence in the monitoring center for the ceasefire, aid delivery, and disarmament, in preparation for incorporating it into the council.

This comes after American reports revealed a plan by the United States to divide Gaza into two parts, within what is called the green zone, and to build temporary housing for Palestinians as "alternative safe gatherings" providing shelter, education, and medical care, until permanent reconstruction plans begin.

American officials view these reports as the only path to begin the reconstruction of the sector, until "Hamas" leaves power.

Last Monday, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution sponsored by the United States that allows for the establishment of an international stability force in the Gaza Strip.

Thirteen members of the council voted in favor of the resolution, while two members, Russia and China, abstained from voting.

According to the text of the resolution, Israeli forces will withdraw once the Israeli security force takes full control. The "peace council," chaired by President Donald Trump, will coordinate security, humanitarian, and reconstruction efforts, directing Gaza towards a reformed Palestinian authority.

The resolution mandates the establishment of an international stabilization force, working with Israel and Egypt under an initial mandate of two years to secure the borders of Gaza, protect civilians, deliver humanitarian aid, train a restructured Palestinian police force, and supervise the disarmament of "Hamas" and other armed groups.

The ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip came into effect on October 10, during which "Hamas" released 20 prisoners who had been held in Gaza since October 7, 2023, thereby freeing all remaining hostages. In response, Israel released about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including those serving life sentences.
