U.S. Congresswoman Announces Resignation After Disagreement with Trump Over Epstein Files

SadaNews - U.S. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a prominent figure in far-right circles, announced on Friday that she would resign from Congress, following President Donald Trump's withdrawal of support for her.

In a video posted online, the 51-year-old Republican congresswoman, who was elected in 2020 from Georgia, stated that she has "always felt demeaned in Washington, D.C. and has never adjusted."

She added that she does not want her supporters and family to endure "harmful and hate-filled primary elections against me by the president we all fought for," indicating that "Republicans are likely to lose the midterm elections."

She said, "I will resign from my position, and my last day of work will be January 5, 2026."

Greene was a prominent figure in Trump's "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) movement, but the president announced on November 7 that he was withdrawing his support for her.

He followed his announcement with a series of posts on his platform "Truth Social," attacking Greene and describing her as "lightweight" and even "treasonous" to the Republican Party.

Greene's shocking resignation is the clearest signal yet of the growing divide within the MAGA movement amidst strong electoral victories achieved by the Democrats this month.

The movement has particularly split regarding Trump's reversal on the case of Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender, whose network allegedly included many American elite figures.

Greene stated, "Defending American women who were raped at age fourteen and were trafficked and exploited by wealthy and influential men should not lead to me being labeled as a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States whom I fought for."
