UNICEF: At least two children killed daily in Gaza since the ceasefire
SadaNews - The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) stated today, Friday, that at least 67 children have been killed in conflict-related incidents since the ceasefire began in Gaza.
Ricardo Perez, a spokesperson for UNICEF, told reporters in Geneva, "Dozens more have been injured. This means that an average of two children have been killed nearly every day since the ceasefire came into effect."
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated that children in the Gaza Strip will take a long time to recover after the war.
This was mentioned in a post on the platform of the American company "X", on the occasion of World Children's Day, where he addressed the conditions of children in the Gaza Strip after two years of the horrors of the Israeli war on the region.
Ghebreyesus noted that "children in Gaza are finally breathing moments of calm after two years of violence."
He indicated that the fragile ceasefire has given children a chance to breathe, connect, play, and even begin to recover.
However, he added, "But the trauma, injuries, sadness, and shattered childhood will take much longer to recover from."
Ghebreyesus confirmed that the World Health Organization is supporting on-the-ground efforts to rehabilitate and rebuild the healthcare system and expand mental health services for children.
