Cancellation of Netanyahu's Trial Session Citing "Security Reasons"
SadaNews - The Central Court in Tel Aviv agreed today, Monday, to cancel the questioning of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over corruption charges, which was scheduled for Wednesday, after he cited "security reasons".
According to Israeli media, the cancellation of the questioning came after Netanyahu delivered a confidential envelope to the public prosecution during his appearance in court today.
Yedioth Ahronoth reported Netanyahu telling the judges, "There is a security matter on Wednesday that I would like to present to you confidentially," noting that Netanyahu provided the public prosecution with an envelope containing "classified materials," and the decision was made after its presentation.
According to the newspaper, Netanyahu's questioning in case "1000" was set to conclude today, where he is accused of receiving valuable gifts from businessmen in exchange for providing them with facilitations and assistance in various fields.
On its part, the official Israeli Broadcasting Authority stated that the mutual questioning sessions for the Prime Minister resumed at the Central Court in Tel Aviv in case "1000," where he is accused of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.
The authority added that the day for giving testimony is expected to be shortened to end at 2 PM (11 AM GMT).
Netanyahu faces accusations of corruption, bribery, and breach of trust in three cases that could lead to imprisonment if convicted, while he refuses to acknowledge any of them.
In addition to "case 1000," Netanyahu is accused in "case 2000" of negotiating with Arnon Mozes, the publisher of Yedioth Ahronoth, for favorable media coverage.
Meanwhile, "case 4000" involves providing facilitations to the former owner of the Walla news site, Shaul Elovitch, who was also responsible at Bezeq Telecommunications, in exchange for favorable media coverage.
