Abdel Atty: Egypt Rejects Any Attempt to Partition Gaza
SadaNews - Egyptian Foreign Minister بدر عبد العاطي discussed Egypt's efforts to solidify the Sharm El Sheikh Agreement and implement its full terms in an interview with Italian newspaper "La Repubblica".
Abdel Atty emphasized in his interview with the Italian newspaper "Egypt's complete rejection of any attempt to partition the Gaza Strip or displace Palestinians".
He stressed that "maintaining the unity of Palestinian territories is a fundamental pillar for any just, lasting, and comprehensive solution", as stated by the Egyptian foreign ministry on its Facebook account.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister pointed out that "the two-state solution remains the only realistic option for achieving peace in the region".
He clarified that "direct engagement from the United States was a crucial factor in overcoming the obstacles faced in previous rounds of negotiations".
He added that it is essential to "continue pushing towards the implementation of all phases of the Sharm El Sheikh peace plan, including the formation of a Palestinian committee to temporarily manage the sector, paving the way for the Palestinian Authority to assume its full responsibilities".
He explained that "Cairo hosts the dialogues of the factions and works to create a consensual environment that ensures the preservation of the unity of Palestinian territories".
Abdel Atty also addressed the gravity of the situation in Sudan, noting the necessity for Sudanese parties to engage in a comprehensive national political process that maintains the unity of the state and its institutions.
He also reviewed the priority Egypt places on restoring stability in Libya, through unifying executive institutions, the withdrawal of foreign troops and fighters, and enabling the Libyan state to regain its full sovereignty.
Moreover, Abdel Atty affirmed the necessity of conducting presidential and parliamentary elections concurrently, ensuring the unification of the Libyan will and closing the chapter of division, within the framework of a comprehensive political process under UN auspices.
Regarding relations between Cairo and Ankara, Abdel Atty confirmed that Egyptian-Turkish relations "are witnessing tangible development at various levels, in light of the mutual political will to push bilateral cooperation towards broader horizons, and to enhance consultation and coordination pathways that serve mutual interests and promote security and stability in the region".
