Abdel Aati and Sheikh Discuss Ongoing Preparations for the International Conference for the Reconstruction of Gaza
SadaNews - Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aati reviewed with Palestinian Vice President Hussein Sheikh the ongoing preparations for holding the international conference for early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza.
Abdel Aati emphasized the importance of mobilizing regional and international support to ensure the effective implementation of the early recovery and reconstruction plan. Both sides agreed to continue close consultations and coordination in the coming period to support the rights of the Palestinian people and efforts to achieve lasting and just peace.
This came during a phone call on Saturday between the Egyptian foreign minister and the Palestinian vice president, as part of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two sides regarding developments in Palestine and efforts to consolidate the Sharm El Sheikh peace agreement and ensure its implementation.
Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, stated that the communication addressed ongoing consultations regarding the draft resolution in the UN Security Council concerning developments in Gaza and security arrangements.
Both sides stressed the importance of ensuring that the resolution contributes to solidifying the end of the war and creating conditions for achieving a just and comprehensive peace that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.
Abdel Aati referred to the statement issued by the United States and several Arab and Islamic countries, in which they expressed their support for the American draft resolution presented before the Security Council regarding Gaza, considering the statement a reflection of the support for adopting the Security Council draft resolution.
He pointed to the regional and international consensus to proceed with the implementation of the plan launched during the Sharm El Sheikh peace summit, which provides a practical path for Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of a Palestinian state, thereby reinforcing peace and stability throughout the region.
The statement included prominent Arab and Islamic countries, including Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan, along with the United States, in a joint formulation considered the broadest since the outbreak of the war.
The countries affirmed that their support for the American draft comes within a "collective responsibility" to push the council towards adopting a resolution that provides a political and security basis for dealing with the post-war phase, and opens the door for new regional and international arrangements.
The Sharm El Sheikh peace summit held last October initiated a practical plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, with an estimated cost of $50 billion over five years, which includes early recovery of infrastructure and basic services, along with a call for an international conference in Cairo to mobilize funding.
