Trump Signs Executive Order Exempting Agricultural Products from Tariffs

SadaNews Economy - US President Donald Trump signed an executive order late Friday to Saturday, reducing tariffs on imports such as beef, bananas, coffee, and tomatoes, while his administration faces pressure from voters struggling with rising living costs.

Trump's administration decided to exempt some agricultural products from the "reciprocal" tariffs imposed this year as part of addressing behaviors considered unfair, after considering issues including the United States' ability to produce them domestically.

Other tariffs will remain in effect.

The tariff exemption has been activated retroactively to take effect from November 13, according to the executive order published by the White House.

The Trump administration is intensifying its efforts to convince Americans of the strength of the economy as concerns over affordability have turned into a major issue for voters in New York City and the states of New Jersey and Virginia recently.

Included in the list of exempt products from the reciprocal tariffs are avocados, coconuts, and pineapples.

After returning to the White House in January, Trump imposed hefty tariffs on his country’s trading partners, prompting economists to warn that these tariffs could raise inflation rates and slow down growth.

Although consumer goods prices have not seen a sharp rise, experts say tariffs have increased prices of some goods, anticipating that the world's largest economy will continue to be affected by tariffs.

Beef prices have risen this year, partly due to a decline in livestock supply.

The Trump administration acknowledges concerns regarding Americans' ability to afford costs, with Trump's chief economic advisor Kevin Hassett noting the decline in purchasing power in recent years.
