China Summons Japanese Ambassador Following Remarks by Prime Minister Regarding Taiwan
SadaNews - Beijing summoned the Japanese ambassador over statements made by the new prime minister regarding Taiwan, according to the official Xinhua News Agency on Friday.
The agency reported, "Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong summoned the Japanese ambassador to China, Kenji Kanesugi, on Thursday, and expressed strong protest against the erroneous statements made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi concerning China."
Takaichi stated last week that armed attacks on Taiwan may justify Japan sending troops to support the island as part of "collective self-defense."
